Mixing Exercises 41, 42, and 43

Exercise 41 - Introducing Burnt Sienna.
Winsor Lemon and Burnt Sienna.

Exercise 42 - Introducing Burnt Sienna.
Permanent Rose and Burnt Sienna.

Exercise 43 - Introducing Burnt Sienna.
Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Sienna.
My favorite of these three exercises, the neutrals here are amazing.

  1. I agree, this is a lovely set of greys, browns and neutrals. Very restful interplay between the cools and warms and all the colours look like shadows, stones, feathers ... natural outdoor objects.

However the Winsor Lemon and Burnt Sienna gives a beautiful range too -- drying lemons, nutmeg and cinnamon and pale sauces and mousses.

It would be a very interesting exercise to choose the scene which would feature one of these mixes as the palette.

  2. I truly enjoy your descriptions.

Burnt Sienna is such an incredible pigment.

All this mixing... color now appears here... and there... greens are no longer green...
