The Fledglings Four

In the morn, three chicks nested.
By afternoon, the nest emptied.

Do well, little ones!

  1. Oh, oh, oh! How sudden! That is impressive, and I guess you feel at the same time a little sad. I hope you see them around in the next few days to say hello again.

The ochre and red make lovely oranges. Striking how the ochre is so clayey when thick, and so golden as wash. I am remembering some zoomorphs too.

  2. I know, I know... I expected to come home to find the count at two. I've been looking... It would have been so cool to witness today's first flights.

Yes, you remember! Ochre washes on my step pattern that absolutely glow. I'm getting most interested in glazing color since these mixing exercises. Soon enough on that.

  3. Don't worry, I'm sure that you will see the babies close by over these next few days! And it is early enough in the season that I wouldn't be surprised if momma and papa robin start another brood sooner than later; they will reuse the nest and even return to it next year, as well. Thank you so much for documenting and sharing this little family with us!

  4. Oh Gretchen, I would really love to see the little ones! :-)

Wow, that would be so cool to get another brood in. My imagination is already jumping up and down while ranting on about a webcam...

It's really been such a pleasure sharing this robin family. It's also brought me closer to birds--I now have more heart for them, their ways, their world.

  5. It has been such a pleasure to share this small miracle of nature. Thank you for taking the trouble to post a diary of a robin's world-I have enjoyed it enormously. And your art too-it is what first drew me here.
Enjoy spotting the youngsters over the next few days.

  6. Thank you so much, Threadspider. :-)

I'll be on the lookout for the little ones. Who knows, there may still be a picture or two to come...
