More Wash

Here's a bit more wash work. A real mix--flat, graded, blended, and a bit of overlay with yellow ochre. There seems to be a real art to getting the wash just right, not too wet, not too dry. Light colors smooth out easier, leaving very little streaking. The darker colors, ah, they need more practice.

There's a bit of an oops here... Forgot to spin the scan ninety degrees counter-clockwise.

  1. All that unconscious wash practice as you were working through BAYDMG is paying off! :-)

  2. Haha!!! Yes!!! Exactly! :-)

Those exercises were so good for me. I am a firm believer in real practice to develop mind-muscle coordination.

With my flighty attention span, I've been amazed that I actually completed all the book's exercises. That's a first for me.

Actually, I'd love to go through them all again but for now they have created a good model that I've used with the course and that I can use as I experiment with new pigments.

I have quite a few yellows (and blues, and ...) about that I've not got into yet. Because of those exercises I now have a good framework for experimentation and comparison.
