Mixing Exercise 12

Exercise 12 - Mid-oranges with green-yellow and orange-red. Winsor Lemon and Cadmium Scarlet.

I think did a bit better this time graduating out the oranges but I didn't find it easy. I'm wondering if my lighting might be part of the problem. I'm working with overhead fluorescents and a small desk lamp with a so called daylight incandescent lamp. At some point, I'd like to pick up some true full spectrum lighting, just to take this possible issue off the table. But first, I'm trying to plow through this document.

  1. Might the opacity of the cadmiums be contributing to your issue about grading out certain colors? Just a thought.

  2. Yes, perhaps it is opaqueness. This evening I use only cads so that might be telling.

Curiously, just now while fitting the recent exercises into my notebook, I noticed how nicely the colors were graduated. I could see that without trouble. Was it the cloudy light streaming in the window that helped? Was it the fact that the colors were dry? Maybe that darned cad yellow that leans heavily into orange, essentially crowding out a range of potential yellow. Or maybe, just maybe, it is the untrained eye of the fledgling color mixer. :-)
