Common Blue Violet

The Common Blue Violet, Viola sororia, grows in every part of my yard. Always has, and I never knew its species! Today I remembered to capture leaf, stem, and flower profile images. And even inadvertently included a few tiny bugs!

Click this image for a better view of the tiny bugs.

The Common Blue Violet occasionally presents in this color variation.

  1. New book alert! I just came home with "Naturally Curious" by Mary Holland. Subtitled "A Photographic Field Guide and Month-by- Month Journey through the Fields, Woods, and Marshes of New England". It is, in a word, fabulous.
    Check out her blog here:

  2. Thanks for the review; my copy will arrive Friday!

Rather timely too as I'd just recently pulled from a bookcase Native Ferns Moss & Grasses by William Cullina.
