After filling the feeders, one accidentally fell over the edge of the step, spilling a considerable amount of sunflower seed. A while later, guess who pokes his head up with his cheeks stuffed.
Besides gathering up the spilled seed, he still had work. When I fill feeders, I leave a little pile on the step above his favorite spot to pop out from. All is quickly stored away.
Katharine, I think I've read that nuthatches are the only local bird able to scale down a tree headfirst. I love the little sounds they make as they creep around, reminds me of humming contentedly.
Judith, they are all so entertaining. I do wish the birds wouldn't bounce off the window screens! I want to remove the screens for winter as they interfere with photo quality when I shoot through the window but it's just that I hate to hear the banging that goes on without a screen.
These made me smile! Lovely lovely photos; what great face on that first little guy!

ReplyDeleteThey are really stuffed! :-) Nice shot of the nuthatch, too -- suitably quirky.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos from your doorstep. It's great to be able to share a space with little beauties like these.
