Paint Making

I've been meaning to get back to my paint making for some time now. So here's a start! This evening I put up ten half pans of the color you see here. Next will be the tubes, once my pigment mix dries out some. I slipped a bit with too much water.

I plan to work out a few more pigments with pan and tube watercolor, and some with distilled water only, useful for tempera.

I'd like to share these pigments with you. So, if you're interested in some pans, tubes, pigments, or any combination, send me an email with your preference(s) and a shipping address and it will be my pleasure to send you a little Nuncketest package. :-)

  1. Oh my goodness! (I did actually gasp.) What a heart-gladdening concept to wake up to (it's morning here ...)

John, I am utterly going to take you up on that. Your pigment colours have already been inspiring new thoughts for my next piece, and tempera looks very promising as the right medium for goatskin.

Crazy visions are now spilling into my head from the hypothetical future of a thriving little pigment supplies firm punching well above its weight called Nuncketest Red ... :-)

More soberly, it's very good to see the pans and tubes alongside the muller. The paint-making process is so much more immediate and better-understood in my head from reading this blog -- seeing it done by an individual rather than conceiving of all paintpans springing fully formed from the forehead of a faceless manufacturer :-)

  2. I can only echo Katharines' thoughts above. It has been a wonderful learning experience to watch you produce these colours from the natural pigments. And I love the glass blending/grinding tool. If I were on the same continent as you I would have been thrilled to take you up on your offer, but I think International postage might just be taking advantage :-)

  3. Ah Katharine, aren't pigments so much fun? I'm getting more comfortable with my mixing, beginning to get a sense of proper wetness. Read a little, do a little, seems to work for me. I'm really excited to be able to share the results. Time to hit the muller! :-)

  4. Judith, I would be completely delighted and honored to send some paints your way. I will be very sad if I don't receive a mailing address from you. I really want to share these paints with you. :-)
