Rublev German Vine Black

This evening I made up my second Rublev pigment, the German Vine Black.

  1. YAY! Another informative video! I too am surprised that a black pigment was included in your basic set but my guess is that they give you the pigments that are the least expensive (and probably the least toxic) to experiment/start with. It is interesting to see how each pigment has its own personality when grinding/mulling, let alone painting with! It's actually kind of mind boggling at all of the variables that go into mixing a 'simple' tube of paint - and to think that you haven't even begun to play with your own ratios and recipes of binder ingredients yet!

  2. I realized late last night that Rublev supplies their "Introductory Sampler" for both watercolor and oil starter kits. It seems that historical palettes have included a black, Turner being an example.

I am slipping deeper into this whole business of pigments, actually part of this evening's post.

Binders,yes... thinking that I must try my hand at mixing egg tempera and oil as well... Fresco is also calling out to me... Phew, I've not picked up pencil nor brush in some time...
