Red Oak Wrap

I spent some time late last night and a bit more tonight to tighten up the veining and warm the greens with a lemon ochre wash. This leaf is from the tree that hangs over my deck. Acorns have been hammering down for days now. And it's not only the reds--the white oak across the way is blanketing the road with its nuts.

  3. I hope everyone clicks on this to view larger- then they will really see the delicate transitions of color in the brittle brown edges, along the stem line and those tiny patches of bluish tint here and there. Love the purple grey tone of the shadow- it really pops the leaf from the page. Beautiful!

  7. That is super-delicate.

I suspect you're practising for when the first snowflakes land and you whisk them off to your studio for a brief but meticulously crystalline drawing from life.

  8. Thanks, Katharine! :-)

Oh my, we are already talking about snow! I would have to be terribly adept to deal with a snowflake! Perhaps I could start with an ice cube? ;-)

This all reminds me of an earlier comment by Gretchen on Wilson Snowflake Bentley.
