Yellow Wood Sorrel

This little one took some research! Peterson's Wildflowers just couldn't get me there but the Field Book of American Wild Flowers (Gretchen's recommendation) tentatively identifies this one as the Yellow Wood Sorrel, Oxalis cymosa. This could possibly be the considerably rarer O. stricta but I don't think we can know for sure until the seed pods develop.

  1. Cheers for F. Schuyler Mathews! That little book has helped me ID more plants than any other book I own; so glad it is helping you too! I looked this flower up in my own copy of the book and I agree with your ID; now I will be keeping my eyes open to see if I can find my own specimen.

  2. I'm pretty sure I remember where I shot this and I'd like to get back and check on its progress. I found it a tricky ID, perhaps because of how the leaves fold.

I'd really like to get all kinds of shots of this species--it needs some good illustration. It'll be a top candidate for inclusion for when I retire and work on my local ID book! :-)
