Sweet Everlasting

Lately I've been on a roll. Species that have been hanging around for lack of an ID are getting identified. I think it comes from having the confidence of feeling that an ID is possible. Also, I've recently needed to head back out for another peek or photo because I overlooked what would be required identifying characteristics and I suppose that helps me develop my eye too.

So here is Sweet Everlasting, Gnaphalium obtusifolium, also known as Catfoot. Why Catfoot?

See this article from Dr. John Hilty's Illinois Flowers website for some fine information.

  1. Catfoot might look a bit like Field Pussytoes, Antennaria neglecta. Do you think that's why the name? Probably not... Joyce

  2. It could be, Joyce! Sometimes I do better than others digging up information--guess I need a bigger library. ;-)
