Lapis Lazuli

Here's a ground up 6x8mm Lapis Lazuli cabachon. This little experiment went surprisingly well; in just minutes the gemstone was reduced to a fine powder.

  1. This is the coolest thing I've seen in months. John, you're an inspiration as always -- jewellery into paint now :-)

  2. Katharine, I'm quite sure you once mentioned that I might grind up a lapis earring for pigment... I found the post!

See http://nuncketest.blogspot.com/2010/07/looking-ahead.html for your comment! :-)

  3. So I did :-) and I still have the earrings I was thinking of at the time ... I've been looking up some egg tempera artists recently who offer lessons. Interesting variety of styles. Alas Koo Schadler's Hampshire course is beyond my means at the moment but it's nice to dream. I am looking forward to the future possibility of a collection of your rigorous cool plant portraits being together in one place online with a small note advertising commissions and lessons.

  4. I have tentative plans for a week or two at Koo's studio this summer so do let me know if you might make it. My schedule is flexible and would love to take a class together.

Koo's book is excellent, well worth it on its own as well as a good prep for her courses.

    Lastly, nice dreams! Who knows...
