Avian Reruns

It's not that I don't have a plethora of new species in the wings, but it's so exciting when I capture a new bird, especially one I have never seen before. So...today is a segue to tomorrow's star, and it gives me an opportunity to share a few recent favorites of mine.

Mother Robin is collecting seeds for her brood...

A little Yellow Warbler was close by while I captured tomorrow's post...

And this character, well, the Nuthatch is one of my faves. I like how it wanders up and down branches in search of bugs as it peeps quietly, like it's humming contentedly while it works.

Yellow Warbler

The Yellow Warbler, Dendroica petechia, is supposedly a common migratory bird. But if so, how come I've never seen one until recently? When I first spotted this little beauty, I thought it was an escaped canary!

I believe this one to be a male, based on the distinct brown lines on his chest. The females' will be fewer and fuzzier.

These first four shots were from my initial encounter.

This one was taken in the same area, just across the street, a few days later.

I've spotted what looks to be young Yellow Warblers at the far end of the lake but they were just too fast for me.
