A Better Bowl

I think this is much closer than yesterday's image to a good composition . I can feel a bit more tweaking here but I'll sleep on it.

I found the bowl about the house. The black background is a tee shirt. The white surface is a foot square piece of marble tile I picked up at Home Depot this afternoon. The cherries were all I had left after last night's devouring.

Edit: A couple of hours later, after another shoot and bit of cropping... No cleanup processing here as I'm just looking at composition.

  1. hi john, been away for awhile... i like the cherry compositions. i can really see it as a painting-nice shadows(warm) which will be nice on the cool grey marble. hope all is well. dorothy

  2. Hey Dorothy,

I am trying to pull in some Old Masters design principles from our workshop--massing, lost/found edges, light/mid/dark areas, limited saturated color...

  3. ooh! I like this one too! Still loving those stems; I like how you have positioned them to be looking inward, bringing the focal point ever so subtly to the center of the composition-almost all of them, that is except for the little rebel on the far right- I particularly like him! :-)

  4. Wow! You know, I never noticed that until you mentioned! I did position each one purposefully... but never consciously.

I feel so relieved to have something to work on! I just need to finalize the composition and then make a transfer. It's going to be a fun night!

  5. I have to say this looks amazing on my brand new I pad! It makes me want to pick up my paints too, so I can imagine how you feel.

  6. A new iPad? Nice, Judith! There is going to be a lecture/demo on using the iPad with botanical art coming up at the ASBA conference in October. I am scheduled to attend and if I don't have an iPad by them, something tells me that I will soon after!
